Portrait of a working writer: Wolfie contemplating his memoir. Copyright 2017, Chanda K. Zimmerman

Back in the day, Writer’s Digest used have that feature in the back of the magazine for personal essays on the writing life–which I loved. In one, a man recounted how he struggled for years to sell his fiction and finally made his first sale! His family was enthused: “You’re a real writer now!” He thought to himself, “What was I before? A ghost writer?

I’ve been blessed to make my living as a professional writer so clearly I’m a “real writer”, but my real goal is to make my living as a fiction writer–a storyteller in novels, short stories and scripts. .

This website is about my life, work and dreams as a writer.  I hope it provides encouragement for others, and provides insight into my process. Be sure to check out some samples of my fiction writing on this site, and to read my creative “nonfiction” at thekittycityreport.wordpress.com–home of The Kitty City Tattler: All the Feline News That’s Fit to Print!

    Hi Chanda,
I was just browsing your blog, and I greatly appreciate the way you define the difference between Professional Writers and others. I can’t tell you how many times people ask me what I “specialize” in and I have to smile and say, “Writing, of course!” 🙂

Hi, Stacey! Thanks for visiting. Yes, I know what you mean. I usually say “writing” as a specialty too, but I’m afraid it doesn’t work with a lot of people. I have to run right now, but I will make it a point to visit your blog this afternoon or tomorrow. Another writer to talk to! That’s exciting! Have a great day. Chanda
